The profession of neurology has come a long way over the years. In 1664, Thomas Willis in his textbook Cerebral Anatomy described the different structures in the brain and coined the word “neurology”—a branch of medicine concerned with the structure, function, and diseases of the nervous system. Although our profession may have originated about 355 years ago, it has had more rapid advancement in the last 50 years.
