NAMED LECTURES AT THE WORLD CONGRESS OF NEUROLOGY
Presentation of the prestigious Named Lectures sponsored by the World Neurology Foundation has become a traditional highlight of the World Congress of Neurology. Created in 1999, the World Neurology Foundation has as a major goal the development of funds to sponsor Named Lectureships that will honor in perpetuity individuals who have achieved great accomplishments in the neurosciences. At the XVII World Congress of Neurology held in London in 2001, two presentations were made including the First Richard L. & Mary Masland Lecture and the First Melvin D. Yahr Lecture. Recipients and lecturers were Timothy A. Pedley, MD of New York and Donald B. Calne, DM, FRCP of Vancouver.
Richard L. Masland, MD (1910-2003) was director of the National Institutes of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) from 1959 to 1968 and Chairman of the Department of Neurology at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York.
