Mazziotta named Chair at UCLA
John C. Mazziotta, MD, PhD, has been named Chair of the Department of Neurology at UCLA. He is a professor of neurology, radiological sciences, and medical and molecular pharmacology and the Director of the UCLA Brain Mapping Center. He has been with the UCLA faculty since 1983. His interests have focused on structure–function relationships in the nervous system, emphasizing the use of functional imaging to study cerebral biochemistry, hemodynamics, and neuropharmacology in vivo in both humans and animal models of disease. Dr. Mazziotta has published over 200 research papers and has received numerous awards, including the S. Weir Mitchell Award and the Wartenberg Prize given by the American Academy of Neurology.
Stephen Cannon new Chairman at University of Texas Southwest Medical Center
Stephen C. Cannon, MD, PhD, has been named Chairman of Neurology at University of Texas Southwest Medical Center, Dallas. Dr. Cannon comes from Harvard Medical School’s Department of Neurobiology. Dr. Cannon’s research interests have recently focused on determining the pathophysiologic basis for a group of heritable neuromuscular disorders: the periodic paralyses and myotonias. When asked about this move, Dr. Cannon said, “UT Southwestern has a tradition of first-rate biomedical research. The institution is in a phase of tremendous growth and has launched a major new initiative to become a preeminent center in neurological science.”
