Cairncross Appointed Head of Neurosciences at Calgary
Dr. J. Gregory Cairncross assumed the position of the head of the Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Calgary and the Calgary Health Region on October 1, 2002. He succeeded Dr. Tom Feasby, who had held the position since 1991. Dr. Cairncross was the Head of the Department of Oncology at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, and Chief Executive Officer of the London Regional Cancer Centre. Dr. Cairncross is well known for his research in neuro-oncology, especially for his studies of low-grade glioma and oligodendrogliomas. He is on the editorial board of Journal of Clinical Oncology and The Canadian Journal of Neurological Sciences.

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Announces New Chair
Gregory L. Holmes, MD, has been named Chairman of Neurology at Dartmouth Medical School. Dr. Holmes comes from the Department of Neurology at Children’s Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Holmes is an epileptologist whose research interests focus on the long-term effects of seizures on the developing brain. Dr. Holmes has published over 200 research papers and has received numerous awards, including the Pierre Gloor award from the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, Michael Prize awarded by Stiflung Michael, and the American Epilepsy Society Research Award. When asked about the move, Dr. Holmes said, “Dartmouth Medical School has a long tradition of superb patient care in neurology and now wishes to build upon this excellence by integrating basic neuroscience research into the clinical and educational mission of the medical center.”
