Neurodevelopmental Disorders, edited by Helen Tager–Flusberg, is an ambitious attempt to integrate research and clinical findings from the fields of cognitive neuroscience, neuropsychology, neuropsychiatry, molecular genetics, and behavioral neurogenetics, in an effort to promote understanding of a variety of neurodevelopmental syndromes. The book is a compilation of works by leading authorities in these fields, and although research in neurodevelopmental syndromes is still in its infancy, there is a wealth of information contained in this volume. The perspective taken by the editor is very refreshing—in order for research into neurodevelopmental syndromes to advance, the integration of empirically based data from multiple disciplines is critical, which is exactly what this volume achieves.
Overall, the text is well organized and well written. Initial chapters discuss recent findings in syndromes with known genetic etiologies such as Fragile X, Williams, and Prader–Willi. Syndromes with more complex etiologies, such as dyslexia and autism, are also included, as are broader views on …
