John Kessler, MD, named Chair of Neurology at Northwestern University
Dr. John Kessler officially took over as Chair of the Department of Neurology and Clinical Neurological Sciences at Northwestern University Medical School, effective May 1, 2000. He replaces Dr. Jack Rozental. Dr. Kessler comes from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he was Vice-Chairman of the Department of Neurology. He was also the Chief of the Neurology Service at the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center. Dr. Kessler is an internationally recognized expert in the field of neuroscience, specifically in the realm of molecular neurobiology. Dr. Kessler serves as Editor for several other journals, including: Journal of Neuroscience Research, Review of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Research, and the Web-based journal The Hypertext Neurological Knowledgebase. George Karpati, MD, named to the The Royal Society of Canada
Dr. George Karpati was elected as full member to the Royal Society of Canada. Dr. Karpati is the Isaac Walton Killam Chair of Neurology at McGill University in Montreal and the Coordinator of Neuromuscular Research at the Montreal Neurological Institute. The Royal Society of Canada is the senior national body of distinguished Canadian scientists with the goal of promoting learning and research in the arts and sciences. Fellowship in the Royal Society is considered Canada’s senior academic accolade. Dr. Karpati was elected for his outstanding contributions to neuromuscular science. His research focuses on neuromuscular neurology, metabolic disease of the nervous system, molecular medicine, and gene therapy. Howard Fine, MD, named Head of NIH’s new Brain Tumor Office
Dr. Howard Fine of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has been named Chief of the newly created Neuro-oncology branch at the NIH.
