CHANGES
The American Academy of Neurology (AAN)'s annual meeting will be held in Toronto from April 17-24, 1999. The Annual Meeting Management Committee recently evaluated the meeting and its goals. Their newest objective is to combine science and education so that all members will benefit from the meeting. In Toronto, there will be education and science on 6 days of the meeting. The Decade of the Brain Plenary Session will be held on Thursday, April 22. Vertical Integration (VI) programs combine educational offerings with scientific presentations. VI programs will be held on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. VI topics for 1999 are: Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, dementia, headache, stroke, epilepsy, and neuro-oncology.
The Alzheimer's Association has established a research grant-its largest ever-named "The Pioneer Award for Alzheimer's Disease Research." This $1 million grant will fund research up to 5 years. The first award was recently given to John Q. Trojanowski, MD, PhD, and Virginia M.-Y. Lee, PhD, a dedicated research team from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Both Drs.
