Recurrent neck pain as a variant of migraine

Neck pain may occur as part of a variety of disorders involving the carotid artery such as dissecting aneurysm, fibromuscular displasia, stroke, and arteritis, or it may result from surgery involving the carotid artery. [1-4] We present a woman who developed recurrent attacks of idiopathic right-sided neck pain and tenderness of the ipsilateral carotid artery, most likely a variant of migraine.
Case report.
A 32-year-old woman had recurrent attacks of right-sided neck pain for 3 years. Her mother had migraine with aura for many years. The patient had no history of headache and began to have frequent attacks of neck pain (2 or 3 per week) during her first pregnancy. After delivery, a variety of examinations were performed to study the neck structures. Thyroid scintigraphy and echography did not show any abnormality. CT of the neck was normal.
