After a median follow-up of 5.9 (1.5-13.8) years, 32 IDE patients converted to MS, 7 remained monophasic, and one was diagnosed with recurrent myelitis. CSF cysC, tau and 14-3-3 assays were not correlated to IDE severity and recovery, to risk of MS conversion, or to subsequent disability and relapse rate in MS patients. Severe clinical onset and pyramidal involvement were associated with incomplete IDE recovery, while somatosensory/motor evoked potentials delay and relapse rate correlated to disability in MS cases.Conclusions: CSF tau and 14-3-3 distinguish between IDEs and NINDDs, while cysC between IDEs and CJD only.
