In the Views & Reviews article “l-Dopa in dystonia: A modern perspective,” Maas et al. provided a historical perspective on the statement “Every child exhibiting dystonia merits an l-dopa trial, lest the potentially treatable condition of dopa-responsive dystonia is missed,” and discussed the current diagnostic and therapeutic applications of l-dopa in neurologic practice, contrasted these with its approved indications, and shared their view on both a diagnostic and therapeutic trial in children and adults with dystonia. Commenting on the article, Dr. Coleman notes that 4 relevant articles from 1969 to 1974 were omitted in the historical background, including the first report of the dose level of l-dopa therapy in dystonia, the first double-blind study, the first report of side effects, and the first report of dopamine-B-hydroxylase levels. Maas et al., authors of the review, cite word limit restrictions as one of the reasons those articles were omitted.
