On November 5, I was selected by the AAN Board of Directors to be Editor-in-Chief of the journal after an international search that began in June 2009 after John H. Noseworthy, MD, FAAN, resigned to become president and CEO of Mayo Clinic. It has been my pleasure and privilege to have served as an Associate and Deputy Editor with two visionary Editors-in-Chief, Drs. Robert C. Griggs and Noseworthy. Under their aegis, the journal has gone from strength to strength. I am thrilled with this appointment and the opportunity to continue my relationship with the journal and the AAN.
STATE OF THE JOURNAL AND FUTURE PLANS
Our mission and vision remain the same, embodied in our strategic plan,1 and serve as the philosophical core of our work on behalf of our readers. We will pursue the journal's mission—Neurology® will provide neurologists with outstanding peer-reviewed articles, editorials, and reviews to enhance patient care, education, clinical research, and professionalism—and vision—Neurology will be the premier peer-reviewed journal for clinical neurologists. It naturally follows that our goals are to achieve the highest levels of author and reader satisfaction; growth in our markets, including foreign language editions; improvement of journal metrics as indicators of the importance of our articles, embodied in the impact factor, Eigenfactor™, and PERQ scores2; the shortest time to decision and publication; and, equally important, mission-advancing financial performance. In addition to maintaining the progress made on journal initiatives to date, the editorial team will seek ways to enhance them and to institute new initiatives, such as expanded e-publishing.

You (and co-authors) do not need to fill out forms or check disclosures as author forms are still valid
and apply to letter.
Submission specifications:
- Submissions must be < 200 words with < 5 references. Reference 1 must be the article on which you are commenting.
- Submissions should not have more than 5 authors. (Exception: original author replies can include all original authors of the article)
- Submit only on articles published within 6 months of issue date.
- Do not be redundant. Read any comments already posted on the article prior to submission.
- Submitted comments are subject to editing and editor review prior to posting.
